Welcome to CSE 132! This introductory email is intended to give you some logistical information as we get started this semester. More will be explained in the first lab meeting on Tuesday, Jan 16. First, the class webpage is here: https://cse132.engineering.wustl.edu We will use Canvas for quizzes, grades, etc., but the prep material, studio instructions, and assignments are all found on the class webpage. There is preparatory material to do prior to the first class meeting. Check it out on the class webpage here: https://cse132.engineering.wustl.edu/modules/00/prep.html Please do come to the lab for which you are registered on Tuesday. We might move folks around a bit, but start where you are registered. The task for Tuesday is Studio 0, which can be done in groups of up to four individuals. A typical week will have a quiz (these are the A quizzes over the prep material) plus studio on Tuesday, and then assignment demos and quiz on the recently-completed assignment (the B quiz) on Thursday. This week will be different, as there will be a studio on Tuesday Jan 16 (Studio 0), and a studio on Thursday Jan 18 (Studio 1) since there isn't an assignment to turn in on Thursday. The first A quiz is due before Studio 1 on Thursday (Jan 18). Note, the A quizzes are super simple, designed to check whether or not you actually did the prep work. They are due before studio. The first assignment will be assigned on Thursday (due the following Thursday). Assignments can be done in pairs (groups of no more than two) or solo, either is fine. The following week will follow the typical schedule with Studio 2 on Tuesday and Assignment 1 due (and Assignment 2 assigned) on Thursday. On the first day only one member of a studio group needs to have the Arduino kit (although its useful if more do), so if you don't have one yet (or are considering whether or not to stay in the class), simply join a group where someone in the group already has a kit. Note: The cable supplied in the SparkFun Arduino kit connects to your computer via USB-A. If your computer has only USB-C ports, you must also bring a USB-A to USB-C adapter to class. We look forward to this semester, and can't wait to have you all in lab this coming week. Prof. James Orr
