Welcome to CSE 132! This introductory email is intended to give you some logistical information as we get started this semester. More will be explained in the first lab meeting on Monday, January 13th and in lecture on Wednesday, January 15th. First, the class webpage is here: https://cse132.engineering.wustl.edu We will use Canvas for quizzes, grades, etc., but the prep material, studio instructions, and assignments are all found on the class webpage. The Canvas page will be available later this week, but the webpage is up. There is preparatory material to do prior to the first class meeting. Check it out on the class webpage here: https://cse132.engineering.wustl.edu/modules/01/prep.html Please do come to the lab for which you are registered on Monday. We might move folks around a bit, but start where you are registered. The task for Monday is Studio 1, which can be done in groups with other students. A typical week will have studio on Monday and lecture on Wednesday. Once we get through the first couple weeks (starting the semester with a studio session and then a Monday off), the typical sequence will be: (1) lecture for a module on a Wednesday; (2) a quiz, called quiz A, during lecture; (3) studio on that module the following Monday; (4) an assignment on that module due one week later (at the beginning of studio); and (5) a second quiz, called quiz B, due the same Monday that the assignment is due. Assignments can be done in pairs (groups of no more than two) or solo, either is fine. Quizzes are all solo. On the first day only one member of a studio group needs to have the Arduino kit (although its useful if more do), so if you don't have one yet (or are considering whether or not to stay in the class), simply join a group where someone in the group already has a kit. Note: The cable supplied in the SparkFun Arduino kit connects to your computer via USB-A. If your computer has only USB-C ports, you must also bring a USB-A to USB-C adapter to class. We look forward to this semester, and can't wait to have you all in lab this coming week. Roger Chamberlain Professor of CSE
